The summer intern position with the Publishing Ethics and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) office will provide the intern with hands-on work experience and will give the student personal insight into the role of publishing ethics in the publication process as well as the adjudication of detected misconduct. The intern will also learn other areas of importance in publishing, such as copyright and open access. The intern will have the opportunity to network with authors, volunteers, members, and IEEE staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Publishing Ethics Team with receiving, processing and tracking of publishing misconduct cases sent to the IEEE Publications office.
- Collect case information from complainants and record it in the EthicsPoint database, creating a digital archive for each case on the office’s network drive, and preparing case documents to be used by staff and volunteers.
- Assist with database consolidation, as well as metrics gathering for publishing ethics reports
- Research and gather online data regarding individuals and articles involved with misconduct complaints.
- Assist staff with the copyright registration of IEEE conferences and journals using the Electronic Copyright Office.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications – External
· Currently pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university.
· Strong skills in data analysis, management, and research.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Familiarity with Word, Excel, Google application suite, SmartSheet
· Detail-oriented and highly organized.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
· Interest in STM publishing is a plus.
