Position Summary:
This position assists the Animal Health Commissioner with all assigned duties to successfully promote the mission of the agency.
Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:
Program Support. Support the Animal Health team by processing and entering data for entry of certificates of veterinary inspectors and licenses. This also includes providing administrative responsibility during an animal disease response.
Customer Service. Provides basic information on import requirements and provide guidance on regulatory requirements to veterinarians, livestock owners, field staff and the general public. Serves as a liaison between the general livestock public and the division of animal health.
Inspections. Support field activities as needed such as inspection of regulated livestock operations, sample collections for disease detection and surveillance, liaison engagement with veterinarians, livestock industry and public.
Technical Assistance. Assist Kansas veterinarians on the VET-CVI program by helping to troubleshoot issues as they arise. Assist in registering new users and ensuring that users have the correct information.
Support Kansas Animal Disease Traceability Initiatives. Including being proficient with ADT technology and data bases such as connecting electronic identification device readers to various systems. This will include being able to operate, troubleshoot and teach the use of such devices, including the readers and associated software.
Planning. Participates in planning and supporting state animal health emergency response activities. Participates as a member of the KDA Incident Management Team and responds to animal health disease response efforts.
This position is home-based. The candidate that is selected for this position with start each day from the candidate’s place of residence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Agricultural background with knowledge of the Kansas livestock industry.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of biosecurity.
- Knowledge of Kansas animal health statues and regulations is preferred.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections which may involve activities in all weather conditions.
- Occasionally the employee must handle soiled, contaminated equipment and may be responding to diseases that are zoonotic in nature.
- Work duties require working with and around animals including livestock and will be subjected to the hazards associate with such activity.
- Must be able to travel in-state and out of state including overnight.
- Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
