The Summer Music Internship at the Duke Catholic Center in Durham, NC is intended for a student to grow as a liturgical musician, learning the daily life of full-time music ministry in a college campus setting while developing liturgical music skills. The Summer Music Intern is hired by and accountable to the Director of the Duke Catholic Center, and works collaboratively with the other members of the DCC ministry team. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Liturgical Music Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing lessons with the Director of Music to develop skills as a liturgical musician: possible lessons include liturgical keyboard skills, conducting, cantor skills, liturgical studies.
- Commit to regular private music practice to further develop liturgical music skills.
- Serve as a primary liturgical musician for weekend liturgies, midweek Holy Hour, and other liturgical services as assigned.
- Study liturgical documents on sacred music.
- Commit appropriate time to continue developing spiritual and prayer life.
- Pastoral:
- Be present for, participate in, and encourage/invite students to engage in: Sunday Masses; Holy Hour; Music Rehearsals; various catechetical, social, and other programs as assigned.
- Develop relationships with Catholic students by being visible on campus and connecting individually with students, especially other interns.
- Administration:
- Update and maintain digital music library, weekly choir and orchestra packets.
- Prepare and print weekly worship aids for liturgies.
- Prepare materials for liturgies including set-up and take-down of musical equipment.
- Actively participate in regular DCC Staff meetings and assist in planning of DCC programming.
- Represent the Duke Catholic Center to Duke University, the Diocese of Raleigh, and the general public.
- Communal Life:
- Contribute to the regular upkeep of living in the Falcone-Arena House
- Actively participate in regular intern community formation
- Other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- Pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree
- Understanding of musical notation
- Preferred competency in piano, organ, conducting, or voice
- Other
- Practicing Roman Catholic
- Experience in college campus ministry (as a student) is preferred
- Organizational skills
- Completion of the Diocese of Raleigh Safe Environment training upon hiring
HOURS & COMPENSATION
- Flexible hours as a 40-hour-per-week position
- Compensation is up to $3,600 for the summer based on an hourly wage up to 40 hrs/week PLUS free luxury housing valued at $800 per month.

- This housing is provided complimentary for in-person internships only.
- Since Sunday is a work-day, Fridays and Saturdays are days off.
