Position Overview:
Camp Runoia is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Waterski Instructor / Camp Counselor to join our team for the summer of 2025. This unique position blends the role of teaching waterskiing to campers of all abilities with the responsibilities of being a camp counselor, leading and mentoring campers in a variety of activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for watersports, experience in waterskiing instruction, and a strong desire to create a positive and engaging camp environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Waterski Instruction:
- Teach waterskiing to campers with a range of experience levels, from beginners to more advanced skiers.
- Organize and lead daily waterski lessons, focusing on skill development, safety, and fun.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and safe for use.
- Monitor water conditions and weather to ensure safe boating and waterskiing activities.
- Lead other water-based activities, such as tubing, and ensure campers are engaged and learning new skills in a safe environment.
Camp Counselor Duties:
- Provide leadership and supervision for a cabin of campers, ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Act as a positive role model, helping to build campers’ confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.
- Lead and participate in a wide range of camp activities beyond waterskiing, such as arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, and evening programs.
- Assist with the daily camp routine, including meals, cabin clean-up, and helping with camp-wide events.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers, and report any concerns to camp management.
- Foster a camp culture that encourages participation, inclusivity, and respect.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching waterskiing or other water sports is preferred.
- Certification in waterskiing instruction (such as USA Waterski or equivalent) is preferred.
- Experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and engage campers of various ages and abilities.
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of camp.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to obtain it before the start of camp.
- Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and working with children.
- Ability to work well as part of a team in a close-knit, collaborative environment.
